The fact that Raleigh is home to seven colleges and universities shows how unusually rich the Greater Raleigh area is in educational opportunities. Among them are Meredith College, North Carolina Sate University, Peace College, St. Augustine’s College, Shaw University, Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, and Wake Technical Community College. These are enhanced by the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and Duke University in Durham, both a short 30-minute commute from Raleigh.


Raleigh offers a variety of affordable events and attractions that are a wealth of fun without the cost. Four free state museums – art, history, natural sciences, and interactive global learning & awareness.  Other events include the State Farmers Market, panning for gems, the Renaissance Faire, The Great Raleigh Road Race, The Southern Women’s Show, Artsplosure - one of the Southeast’s most popular festivals, Lazy Daze Festival, and the Executive Mansion Holiday Open House, only to name a few. Raleigh is the place to find an abundance of galleries and art centers. Artspace, Inc., located in Downtown Raleigh, is home to more than 30 artists working in studios that open to the public. The Gallery at the Cotton Company is a free fine art gallery that hosts local and national fine artists. Municipal Building Art Exhibitions feature works of local artists. Pullen Arts Center and Sertoma Arts Center are two centers that offer a variety of arts classes in a variety of media.
